Baltimore Symphony and RXR Realty Host Exclusive Fundraiser
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra presented An Evening with André Watts at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Inner Harbor, Baltimore and the American Visionary Art Museum on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. In partnership with RXR Realty, developer of The Residences, more than sixty of Maryland’s most influential business executives, community leaders and arts philanthropists, were joined by famed German pianist André Watts, to show support of the BSO. Guests enjoyed an elegant evening of socializing, dining, brief comments from Mr. Watts and a unique performance by members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
This event is the culminating celebration of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s “Music Matters: Play Your Part” campaign. In addition to accepting salary and benefits reductions as part of a recently renegotiated contract, the musicians of the BSO demonstrated their commitment to the community last Spring by voluntarily donating $1 million to help the organization navigate through the challenging economic climate. Established as a matching challenge to raise an additional $2 million, Music Matters: Play Your Part was intended to inspire new and increased support from the public. To date, more than $1.25 million has been raised, including a $50,000 leadership gift from Music Director Marin Alsop. This event will help complete the challenge, as the BSO looks to the community to raise the final $750,000.
